Chrissean Williams, 16, of Wildwood, Florida, was shot and killed on August 26, 2019, at Royal Park during a video game gathering. Court records state that Bacarri Justice Austell, 26, pursued Williams and fired four shots, one striking Williams in the head and causing immediate death.
Austell claimed he believed Williams had previously threatened him and said he acted in fear for his life; investigators and prosecutors rejected that account. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter County Fire Rescue, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement worked on the investigation. A K9 unit located the firearm used in the shooting, and the victim witness department coordinated testimony that figures in the prosecution.
In December 2023 a Sumter County jury found Austell guilty of second-degree murder. Those who knew Chrissean or were at the park that day are asked to come forward with any information that could add to the record.
