Richard Edward Peters, 76, was found dead in his Summerfield home in the 14500 block of Southeast First Avenue Road on July 26, 2019. A sheriff’s deputy discovered his body during a well-being check requested by a concerned neighbor. Peters, a retired postmaster and Vietnam veteran who had been living with his grandson, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide. Neighbors said he was a good, quiet man who loved his pickup truck and his television; the home had been burglarized a week earlier and a television was taken.
Investigators identified multiple suspects. Chase Freeman, 21, was arrested and charged as principal to first-degree felony murder. Forensic evidence linked 23-year-old Christopher Sesler to the scene, and he was identified in a photo lineup; he was transported from the Lake County Jail to face first-degree murder charges. Social media tied 21-year-old David Dillberg to activity hours before the killing. Detectives were also seeking a fourth suspect. If anyone knew Richard, his routines, or saw suspicious activity near Southeast First Avenue Road in late July 2019, contact detectives with information.
