Juan Luis Martinez was 35 and a well-known Dominican barber and social media entertainer who was shot and killed on July 16, 2019, outside his barbershop, Luigi’s Clippers, in West Little River, Miami‑Dade County. He performed online under the handle La Garata Films and had a large following. The shooting grew out of an ongoing dispute with a neighbor, Enrique Martinez, over loud music from the barbershop. An argument became physical, and Enrique’s son, Adrian Dorta Martinez, arrived. Witnesses say Adrian confronted Juan, a fight followed, and Adrian retrieved a gun from his car and shot Juan multiple times. Juan tried to flee but was pursued and shot again; he died at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

The entire episode was captured on the shop’s surveillance cameras. Adrian Dorta Martinez was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with first‑degree murder and attempted second‑degree murder; he was held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. A GoFundMe was set up to help his family transport his body to the Dominican Republic for burial. The case left the community grieving and raised questions about the deadly escalation of a neighborhood dispute.
