Tywon Caldwell Tatum Sr, a 32-year-old Crestview, Florida resident and native of Tuskegee, Alabama, was shot and killed on July 8, 2019 during an argument in Crestview. He had lived in Crestview for more than 20 years and is survived by his wife Shanay Tatum, his parents Leona Tatum and David D. Williams, his stepfather Timmie Jordan, and his children Tywon Jr. Miracle, Tyandra, and Janiya.
Investigators say the shooting led to a manhunt after the shooter fled the scene. The case involved the Crestview Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement; the methamphetamine trafficking aspect was handled by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. A suspect, Tony Jerome Byrd, was arrested in Atlanta on August 30, 2019. Court proceedings later resulted in convictions related to the shooting and drug offenses.
