Rashaad Kelly, 22, of Stuart, Florida, was shot late on the night of May 25, 2019, in the 800 block of Southeast Spruce Avenue in East Stuart. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Kelly with a gunshot wound and he was taken to Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital, where he died the next morning. This was the first fatal shooting in East Stuart since 2009.

Stuart Police Chief Joseph Tumminelli called the investigation very sensitive. No arrests have been announced and the department has urged anyone with information to come forward; patrols in East Stuart were increased after the shooting. Local NAACP leaders, including chapter president Jimmy Smith, organized a community discussion on June 20, 2019, to address gun violence and public concerns.
