On October 10, 2015, 22-year-old Mohamed Sbeih was shot and killed in Oakland’s Fruitvale District. The shooting took place about 9:21 p.m. near the 3600 block of Foothill Boulevard while Sbeih and his 24-year-old cousin, Mustafa Albowyha, stood on a street corner. Someone approached on foot, opened fire, and then fled, possibly aided by a waiting vehicle. No suspect or clear motive has been identified and it was unclear why the two men were at that location, which was not their usual neighborhood.

Family remembered Mohamed as having a heart of gold and spoke of his plans to continue his education and build a future. A memorial fund was created in his name to provide scholarships and financial assistance to students, aiming to honor his spirit. If anyone has information about that night or why Mohamed and his cousin were in the area, please come forward.
