Stephanie McNabb, 41, of Palmetto, Florida, was shot multiple times and died from her injuries after a late-night attack on February 10, 2019. Officers found her semi-conscious at a residence on the 1100 block of 17th Avenue West; she was taken to Blake Medical Center and later succumbed to her wounds.

The shooter was identified as her long-time partner, 41-year-old Flozell Murrell III. The relationship had been described as tumultuous and violent over about 25 years. In early February 2019 Murrell had been involved in a separate violent episode: after reuniting with McNabb he allegedly assaulted her at a 7-Eleven, pistol-whipped her, held her at a motel against her will until she escaped, and an arrest warrant was issued on February 5 for multiple felonies including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation, and violation of an injunction.

On the night of the murder Murrell forced his way into the home where McNabb was staying, shot her multiple times, struggled with another adult in the house and fled; he was arrested a few hours later and charged with first-degree murder plus related counts. The case underscores the lethal risks faced by victims of ongoing domestic violence and the limits of protective orders and prior criminal sanctions.

Did anyone who knew Stephanie or the household notice changes in her situation in the days before February 10?
