Scott Bartolotti, 38, of Land O’Lakes, Florida, died on January 15, 2019 after a road rage confrontation that escalated into a fatal shooting. The incident began with a traffic crash at Collier Parkway and State Road 54; one driver tried to leave and a pursuit ended at U.S. 41 and State Road 54, where at least one shot was fired from one vehicle to another and Bartolotti was killed.

Authorities arrested 40-year-old Damion Brissett and charged him with second-degree murder. Brissett remained at the scene and contended he acted in self-defense, saying he had been rear-ended and then threatened; some witnesses, however, described Brissett walking toward Bartolotti’s vehicle before shots were fired. A circuit judge ruled the events did not meet Florida’s Stand Your Ground standard, and court proceedings were ongoing.
