Aija Rai Hunter, 24, of Houston, Texas, was fatally shot on October 31, 2018, at the Greyhound bus station in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Hunter had been in the area as part of a group assisting with Hurricane Michael recovery when a verbal altercation with a co-worker, Ledesma Vonzell Wooden, escalated. Wooden retrieved a firearm from his luggage and opened fire on co-workers. Hunter was shot in the abdomen and later died at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Two other co-workers were involved: Phillip Earl Lydia was shot in the leg and survived, and Theodies Shepherd was present and unharmed. Wooden fled the scene and was apprehended by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office a few hours later. Hunter’s family and friends remember her as a positive, loving, and giving person devoted to helping others.
Does anyone who knew Aija or was working on the recovery team that week have additional information to share?
