On September 29, 2018, 26-year-old Joseph Sapp of Fort White, Florida, was killed during a late-night altercation at the Three Rivers boat ramp at 1102 SW Santa Fe Drive. Deputies found Sapp and 27-year-old Joshua Brown with gunshot wounds; Sapp was pronounced dead at the scene and Brown was critically injured and later airlifted to a Gainesville hospital. A third man, 57-year-old David Scheel, had minor injuries not related to a firearm.
Witnesses said the three men argued before the confrontation turned physical and shots were fired. A handgun was recovered and Scheel was identified as the shooter. After treatment at a hospital he was transported for questioning and subsequently arrested, charged with murder, attempted murder, firing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and criminal mischief; he was booked without bond. The motive for the argument has not been established.
If anyone was at the Three Rivers boat ramp that night or has information about what led to the confrontation, please come forward.
