I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of community support after such a horrific tragedy like what happened to the Bernard family. Living in the same community where Roosevelt Bernard was found, I can still recall the somber atmosphere that enveloped us all when the news broke. It’s a tragedy that hit too close to home. While justice was served with Blanc’s sentencing, I can’t help but reflect on how vital community support systems are in the aftermath of such events. Neighbors rallied around the remaining family members, offering whatever support they could, whether it was organizing memorials, setting up funds to help with the expenses, or simply being there to listen and offer comfort. Tragedies like this remind us of the importance of leaning on each other during times of unimaginable loss. I hope that we can continue to foster a sense of unity and support in our communities, not just in response to tragedies, but as a proactive measure to identify and prevent domestic violence situations before they escalate. My thoughts remain with the Bernard family and everyone affected by this senseless act.
