Elfriede Asendorf, an 82-year-old resident of Windermere, Florida, was found with a gunshot wound in her home on April 19, 2018. Authorities were called for a well-being check; she was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators identified 48-year-old James Bauduy as the person who fatally shot her.
Police say the killing was linked to a personal relationship: Bauduy was the ex-boyfriend of Asendorf’s daughter. On the day of the murder, Bauduy reportedly carjacked the daughter, then drove to Asendorf’s home and shot her. He stole the daughter’s car and fled. Deputies located Bauduy in Orange County about 24 hours later; when he refused commands and appeared armed, deputies fired and Bauduy died. Deputies involved were placed on administrative duty pending investigation. The case was closed after the suspect’s death.
