I can't stop thinking about how the community came together after the tragedy at Stoneman Douglas. I just read an article about how funds were raised to support Luke Hoyer's family, as well as the other victims' families. It's a testament to the love and compassion that people have for each other, especially in times of unimaginable sorrow. The organizers really did a wonderful job in not only bringing financial support but also in creating a space for healing and remembrance. Every dollar donated and every candle lit seemed to have a bit of hope attached to it for a safer future. Thinking of Luke and the others today and hoping that their families find some comfort in the community's continued support. ?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the immense courage it must take for students to return to school after experiencing such a traumatic event like the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. I can't even begin to imagine the fear and anxiety that must linger. Luke Hoyer’s story is particularly haunting in how this bright, young life was cut short simply because he went to school that day. It makes me wonder how we, as a community, can better support these kids who live with that trauma every day. While advocacy for change is crucial, equally important is providing a safe space for these survivors to share their experiences and heal. Anyone have ideas on resources or support networks that have been effective for communities dealing with similar tragedies? Thinking of Luke’s family and friends as they navigate through unimaginable pain, hoping they find strength and peace in their journey.
I've been thinking about the immense bravery of those students and teachers who were in the school that day. It's unimaginable to consider the fear they must have faced, yet some of them assisted others in escaping or taking cover. In the chaos of the moment, when every second counted, hearing about those who remained calm enough to help their peers makes me realize the strength and courage that emerged from such a horrific situation.
Luke Hoyer was one of many young people who should have had the chance to live a full life. It's intensely moving to see how his friends and family have been remembering him and using his story to push for meaningful changes. The advocacy by victims' families highlights an unwavering commitment to ensuring that such an incident never happens again. It’s an inspiring legacy amidst such deep sorrow.
