DeAundre Roberts, 21, was killed on January 23, 2018, in Brooksville, Florida, after a drug transaction at the Coney Island Restaurant turned violent. Roberts and an associate, Napoleon Mason, had arranged to buy three pounds of marijuana for $8,000 from Anthony J. Borzell. While seated in Mason’s vehicle, Borzell produced a 9mm handgun and fired 11 shots into the car; one bullet struck Roberts in the back. Mason drove to Bayfront Health Brooksville and dropped Roberts off, but Roberts later died of his injuries.
Police reported no cannabis or firearms were found at the scene. Anthony J. Borzell, 24, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder, criminal solicitation, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony; he was booked into the Hernando County jail with bail set at $37,000. The community mourned Roberts’ death; what details about the confrontation or the arrangement have not yet been clarified?
