Anthony Paul Mathison, a 62-year-old man from Tampa, Florida, was shot and killed inside the Kool Runnings bar in Avon Park shortly before 11:00 p.m. on December 29, 2017. Deputies from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services pronounced Mathison dead at the scene. Several patrons were in the bar when the shooting occurred, but only a few remained to give statements.

Investigators identified a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued for Ian Jobson, 51, on charges of first-degree murder and firing a weapon in public; Jobson was described as 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. Authorities offered a cash reward for information leading to his arrest. The shooting prompted questions about security measures at Kool Runnings and the sheriff’s office continued to ask the public for help.
