Alfred Wozniak, 72, was found dead in his Shalimar, Florida, home on November 15, 2017. His body was discovered hidden behind a brick wall in a closet beneath the stairway, wrapped in a tarp and secured with duct tape. An autopsy showed a gunshot wound to the left temple; investigators said the bullet trajectory did not match the account given by his wife, Barbara Wozniak.
Barbara was arrested soon after the discovery and initially told police she had shot Alfred in self-defense after he allegedly tried to choke her. Investigators reported inconsistencies in her story and pointed to surveillance footage showing her purchasing a tarp, plastic sheet, and repair mortar shortly after the incident. She was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Experts later evaluated Barbara’s claim that she was a battered woman; both defense and state experts reported she displayed characteristics consistent with a history of abuse, and family members and other witnesses supported allegations of long-term physical, emotional, and sexual abuse by Alfred. The murder charge was dropped and Barbara entered a no-contest plea to tampering with evidence, receiving five years probation.
Does anyone have additional information about Alfred’s life in Shalimar or about what neighbors may have observed around November 2017?
