Joshua Alan Jordan, 22, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died on September 30, 2017, after a fatal gunshot wound sustained at his family home. The shooting happened that afternoon when his father, John Edwin Jordan, was cleaning a Glock 21 .45-caliber handgun after returning from a local gun range. The firearm discharged and the bullet struck Joshua in the entry area of the home. Family members performed CPR and emergency services transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigated and determined the shooting was accidental. John Jordan was not charged, and investigators concluded there was no intent to harm. Joshua was active in music and mentorship, performing with the Pride of Port Charlotte band, the Praise Band at Liberty Community Church, the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Knights Alumni Corps, and his death deeply affected his family and community.
