Timothy Hurley, 59, was killed during an early-morning robbery at the Zota Beach Resort in Longboat Key, Florida, on August 4, 2017. Hurley worked as the night desk manager; a second victim, 51-year-old security guard Kevin Carter, was also killed. The robbery took about $900.
A primary suspect, 29-year-old Darryl Hanna Jr., a former part-time security guard at the resort, was arrested on August 9, 2017, and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of armed robbery. Hanna fell into a stroke-induced coma on September 10, 2017, and later died, leaving many questions about the case unresolved. Years later, the family of Hurley filed a lawsuit against the resort and the security company alleging the deaths could have been prevented with better security measures.
Hurley is remembered by family as kind and selfless; his niece Kristine Geer spoke about his support and the impact he had on their lives. If anyone has information about the robbery or Hurley’s last shift, please share what is known.
