Karl Wolfer, 54, a Lighthouse Point resident and former River Bend, North Carolina councilman, was found dead outside his home on N.E. 27th Court early morning on July 7, 2017. The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported his body was discovered around 4:45 a.m.; initial reports say he had been shot multiple times while sitting in his car. Authorities classified the incident as a homicide and opened an immediate investigation.
Investigators reported Wolfer had been followed home after closing his store in Lauderdale Lakes. A 33-year-old man, Terrance Mathis, was arrested on August 18, 2017; investigators say Mathis encountered Wolfer at the liquor store, followed him to his residence and shot him during an attempted robbery. Wolfer’s death was the first murder in Lighthouse Point in over a decade and drew strong local attention.
Anyone who knew Wolfer, saw him the night of July 6–7, 2017, or has information about the events outside his home is asked to come forward.
