Christin Marie Cassels was 23 when she was fatally shot outside a home off US-301 in Hawthorne, Florida, on April 21, 2017. A lifelong Hawthorne resident born April 25, 1993, she had graduated from Hawthorne High School, played softball, lifted weights and belonged to FFA, and worked as a medical assistant. She had been returning from a day at the beach with her boyfriend when a group approached; as Christin tried to go back inside, gunfire erupted and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators initially reported she was not the intended target and that the suspects were believed to have been after money and possibly narcotics. Years later three suspects — Keneth Altidor, Blake Johnson and Nikenson Perin — were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and burglary while armed; reports say mobile device and Google location data placed them at the scene.
