Santos Simiona Gonzalez-Lopez, 32, of Ruskin, Florida, was shot and killed at her home at 3317 Willow Road on April 11, 2017. Her ex-boyfriend, Leopoldo Galarza-Espinosa, arrived that night, banged on the door demanding entry, then entered and got into an argument with Gonzalez-Lopez. He produced a semi-automatic handgun, chambered a round, announced that two people were going to die, and shot Gonzalez-Lopez three times.
Deputies found both Gonzalez-Lopez and Galarza-Espinosa collapsed on a bed; Gonzalez-Lopez was unresponsive and Galarza-Espinosa was alive and taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Galarza-Espinosa later told investigators he acted after finding Gonzalez-Lopez with someone else and was charged with first-degree murder. The case has been described as an instance of fatal domestic violence and prompted calls for greater support for people leaving abusive relationships.
Does anyone have information about Gonzalez-Lopez’s life in Ruskin or the events leading up to April 11, 2017?
