Charles William Butchie Singer, 48, was killed on February 8, 2017, in Bunnell, Florida. Court records say the fatal shooting occurred during a heated argument with his wife, Dorothy Singer; prosecutors contend he was shot while asleep in the master bedroom, while Dorothy claimed she acted in self-defense. She allegedly shot him five times and then attempted to conceal the body on the couple’s property.
Months later his remains were found severely decomposed, wrapped in bedding and buried beneath tarps, debris and a jon boat, which prompted a homicide investigation and Dorothy Singer’s arrest. Her first trial ended in a May 2018 conviction for first-degree murder and a life-without-parole sentence, but that verdict was overturned by the 5th District Court of Appeals because the trial judge denied a continuance after new DNA evidence surfaced just before trial.
At retrial Dorothy Singer pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and received 32½ years in prison, with a minimum of 25 years to serve.
Did anyone in the Bunnell area know the Singers or have information about what happened that night?
