Marcus Hood, a 28-year-old African American man, was killed on November 26, 2016, after a shooting at the Gulf Coast Town Center in Estero, Florida. Two other people were wounded in the same incident. Hood and another man tried to leave the scene by car, but the vehicle’s tires blew out at Estero Parkway and Cypress View Drive; Hood was taken to a hospital and died of six gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has not laid out a clear timeline of events and has declined to release precise locations for the shootings, calling the situation complex. More than 36 deputies responded to the initial shots fired call. No arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced and the case remains open.
Hood’s mother, Daphine Renee Perkins, has publicly sought answers and maintained that her son was not involved with the Lake Boyz, a group arrested by the Fort Myers Police Department soon after the killing. A roadside memorial stands at Estero Parkway and Cypress View Drive in his memory.
If anyone has information about the shooting or saw activity near the Gulf Coast Town Center or Estero Parkway on November 26, 2016, please come forward.
