Marlena Turnquest, 24, was fatally shot just after midnight on September 14, 2016, outside her grandmother’s home in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The shooting was part of a double shooting that also left 26-year-old Deneil Leroy Merritt critically injured. Police say an earlier altercation that evening preceded the violence and that the three individuals knew one another.
The Hallandale Beach Police Department identified 29-year-old Eddie Sabastain Mosley as the primary suspect. Mosley, who lived in the same neighborhood, was taken into custody around 2 a.m. on September 15, 2016, and charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of ammunition by a felon. Reports state he was located after sightings in the area and a tip allegedly from a barber who said Mosley had confessed; he was ultimately apprehended at South City Beach Park.
Turnquest’s family described her as kind and quiet, someone who brought joy and laughter to those around her. What details about that earlier altercation might help explain how this shooting began?
