Justine Clawson, 24, was shot and killed in her Port Orange apartment at Victoria Gardens on the night of August 26, 2016, shortly after returning from work at the Hair Cuttery. Davis reportedly punched Clawson, breaking her jaw in two places, then shot her four times in the back as their two young children — a 2-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and a 1-year-old son with Davis — were in the apartment.

After the killing, Davis is said to have left the children strapped into their car seats outside a closed pizza restaurant and then crashed his car into a tree in an apparent suicide attempt; he survived and was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. At trial Davis claimed self-defense, saying Clawson had been abusive, while the prosecution pointed to a single busted knuckle as his only injury and argued the killing was premeditated. In July 2018 Davis was convicted of second-degree murder and two counts of child neglect and sentenced to life without parole.
