On June 28, 2016, 16-year-old Jemmelle Raymond was killed in a drive-by shooting in Miami Gardens, Florida. The attack happened around 12:15 a.m. outside a home near Northwest 24th Court and Northwest 168th Street. Raymond was located inside a black Volkswagen with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene; the vehicle’s back windshield had been struck by at least ten bullets.
The shooting also critically wounded an 18-year-old, Dre’quan Burnett, who was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and later died of his injuries. A third occupant of the car was shot and survived in stable condition; that person’s identity has not been released. Major Ralph Suarez of the Miami Gardens Police Department indicated the attack might have been gang-related. No arrests have been announced and the shooter remains at large.
Jemmelle’s older brother, 18-year-old Tremmelle Raymond Jr., had been fatally shot on June 1, 2016, in Liberty City, Miami, weeks before Jemmelle’s death. Anyone with information about the June 28 shooting is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
