Amparo Moreno, 44, was shot and killed on June 18, 2016, outside her home on 9th Street West in Lehigh Acres, Florida, following a heated argument with her husband, Placido Moreno-Torres. Neighbors reported hearing the couple loudly arguing before gunshots were fired. A 20-year-old neighbor, Ricardo Vaca, heard the commotion and went to intervene; he was shot and killed at the scene alongside Moreno. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly identified Placido Moreno-Torres, 47, as the shooter and he fled on foot. The argument reportedly escalated after Moreno-Torres struck his wife, prompting her to call for help. Vaca, described as a good Samaritan, tried to mediate and was killed in the exchange. The community was left shaken by the double killing and by the fatal outcome for someone who stepped in to help.
Does anyone in Lehigh Acres remember that night or have information about the events leading up to the shootings?
