Rosemary Getz, an 88-year-old resident of Tavares, Florida, died on March 11, 2016. Her death was not natural: she was shot three times in the head and her longtime companion, 89-year-old Carl Lange, was arrested that same day after admitting to killing her. Lange told police the shootings were part of a suicide pact and had written letters asserting a mutual agreement, but family and friends questioned that account — they described Rosemary as devoutly Catholic who reportedly did not believe in suicide and as happy and healthy before her death.

The couple’s small terrier, Goldilocks, was also killed in the incident. A well-being check requested by Rosemary’s son, Clark Getz, led police to discover the bodies. Lange, who used a wheelchair most of the time and had been ill, was charged with second-degree murder and held in the Lake County Jail.

Many details about motive and the circumstances remain unclear. Did anyone in the neighborhood notice signs of planning or distress before March 11, 2016?
