James Ray Forsyth, a 61-year-old white male, was shot and killed on March 5, 2016, in Lake Butler, Florida. The shooting happened during an argument inside a car near the intersection of County Road 796 and County Road 796A. Forsyth died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.
Thomas Wayne Powell Jr., 38, a relative of Forsyth, was arrested and initially held on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon at the Union County Jail on $250,000 bond. As the investigation continued, Powell was also charged with first-degree murder; officials said additional charges could follow depending on investigative findings. The case attracted attention because the shooter and victim were family members.
Does anyone have information about the events that led to the argument that night or witnessed activity near County Road 796 and 796A on March 5, 2016?
