Richard Allen Hutchinson Jr., 33, of Silver Springs, Florida, was shot and killed at his home at 322 NE 167th Court on January 26, 2016. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 9 a.m. and found Hutchinson deceased from gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported an altercation at the residence before the shooting.
No arrests were made immediately and investigators were conducting preliminary work: interviewing everyone at the scene and serving a search warrant at the home. Court records later identify a 24-year-old man, Chase Tailor Jones, as the shooter; Jones claimed he shot Hutchinson three times after Hutchinson allegedly came at him with a knife and invoked Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. Law enforcement ruled the shooting a justifiable act of self-defense.
