Kevin T. McGrath Sr., 47, and his wife Shanna L. McGrath were found dead from gunshot wounds at their home on Peoria Boulevard in Crestview, Florida, on January 23, 2016. A third victim, 22-year-old Elbert L. Merrick III of Milton, was found dead outside the residence. Jacob R. Langston, 22, who lived in the McGrath home, was wounded by gunfire in the arm and shoulder but survived.
Authorities say the confrontation began when Merrick arrived to retrieve items from Langston; Merrick was shot in the head outside the house. Shanna McGrath was shot while attempting to call 911, and Kevin McGrath was later shot and killed in the home. Langston was identified as the primary suspect and was later indicted by an Okaloosa grand jury on counts including first-degree premeditated murder for Merrick and first-degree premeditated and/or felony murder for Kevin and Shanna McGrath. The indictment also includes animal cruelty charges after the family dogs were shot; one dog, Kia, died at the scene and another, Jasmine, survived but needed medical treatment.
The Crestview Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated; the prosecution was handled by Assistant State Attorney Angela Mason. Does anyone have information about the events that evening or about the people involved that could help clarify what happened?
