Darelle Donte Porter, a 30-year-old African American man, was found shot to death on September 15, 2015, on Vine Street near Oak Avenue in Sorrento, Florida. A passerby discovered his body and paramedics confirmed he had died of multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors reported hearing three to four quick gunshots late that night.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation. CSI personnel recovered evidence at the scene, but the murder weapon was not found. Porter was remembered by friends and neighbors as a considerate person whose killing shocked the community; his death was the second homicide in the area within a year.
