Candelerio Gonzalez, a 44-year-old Hispanic man, was killed on July 23, 2015, in Beverly Hills, Florida, during a road rage confrontation that ended in a shooting. Gonzalez was driving with his wife, daughter and grandson when he and another driver, 52-year-old Robert Doyle, each called 911 describing aggressive driving and alleging the other was trying to run them off the road. Both vehicles stopped in front of Doyle’s home; Gonzalez exited his truck and, according to eyewitnesses, was shot by Doyle while backing up. Doyle’s wife said Gonzalez was charging at her husband. After the shooting, Doyle reportedly held Gonzalez’s family at gunpoint until police arrived, and Gonzalez died at the scene. A judge later dismissed all charges against Doyle following a stand-your-ground hearing that found he acted in self-defense.
