Michael Richardson was 24 when he was found dead in a car outside a home in Seffner, Florida, on July 5, 2015. He suffered severe upper body trauma; the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office described his death as a violent, cold-blooded murder and opened an intensive investigation that drew strong public attention.

Detectives later identified multiple suspects and made arrests. Phillip Stapleton, then 32, was charged as principal to murder in the first degree and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Aurelio Diaz was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and accused of being the person who pulled the trigger.
