John A. Peterson, 46, was shot dead at his father’s home on White Sands Road in Keystone Heights, Florida, on June 22, 2015. Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were called about 1:15 p.m. and found Peterson deceased from a gunshot wound inside Dana Peterson’s residence, near Gold Head Branch State Park.

Dana Peterson, then 68, was taken into custody and questioned at the scene; the motive was not immediately disclosed. Neighbors, many of them renters, said they were shocked and fearful because such violence was unusual in the area. The investigation continued and Dana Peterson was later charged with his son’s murder.
