Steven Bradley, 34, of Poinciana, Florida, died on April 27, 2015, after forcing his way into a home on Wallaby Lane at about 4 a.m., armed with several pistols and searching for what he believed was a mind control box. The house, on the Polk and Osceola County line, was occupied by a family of four; the mother hid in a bathroom with her two young children while Bradley dragged the father through rooms and held him hostage. The family called police and deputies surrounded the home.
Deputies attempted negotiations. A deputy reported seeing Bradley peeking from behind a wall with a flashlight, which deputies mistook for a weapon; they opened fire and stormed the house. Bradley later retreated to a bedroom, locked the door, and was found dead there after SWAT used robots to survey the room. A pistol was on his hip, another on the floor, and a backpack contained ammunition. Investigators noted Bradley had significant untreated mental health issues. Authorities initially could not immediately determine whether his death resulted from a self-inflicted wound or deputy gunfire, and the incident was later classified as a justifiable use of force with no arrests announced.
What details about the standoff or Bradley’s movements that morning might help clarify how events unfolded?
