Sheley Glenn Brooks, 75, was murdered in his home in Ponce de Leon, Florida, on April 18, 2015. His wife, Jacqulyn Brooks, was also killed in the same incident. The couple were known locally for their ministry work and generosity.
Investigators say 28-year-old Joshua Brandyn Gaskey of Pensacola visited the Brookses’ home seeking money and prescription medication. When the requests were denied he returned the next day and shot both Sheley and Jacqulyn twice in the head with a .22-caliber revolver. Authorities charged Gaskey with two counts of first-degree murder, armed burglary, and armed robbery; prosecutors presented evidence they say showed the killings were planned to prevent identification.
The trial record notes the defense asked the court to consider Gaskey’s troubled childhood at sentencing. The jury imposed two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. Did anyone in Ponce de Leon or the surrounding area have contact with the Brookses in the days before April 18, 2015, who hasn’t spoken publicly?
