Cagney Aaron Benson, 29 and a Springfield, Florida resident, was found dead on December 18, 2014. His body was in the driver’s seat of a 2009 Chevy Cobalt parked in the Maharaj Mobile Home Park at about 6:30 a.m. He had been shot once in the face and once behind the ear, injuries investigators described as a targeted attack; the car was not running, suggesting the shooting occurred while the vehicle was stationary.

Investigators linked Benson to a robbery the previous night in which he and two other men allegedly took jewelry, a cellphone, money and drugs from Fredricus White. During that incident Benson reportedly put a gun to White’s head and threatened to kill him before another assailant intervened. Authorities later identified White as a prime suspect and alleged he conspired with his uncle, Omar Fidel Redmon, and others to have Benson killed in retaliation. Prosecutors dropped charges against White in August 2015, citing insufficient evidence and an uncooperative key witness.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office assigned 15 investigators to the case but reported difficulty progressing because of a lack of community cooperation. The case remains open and under investigation. Does anyone have information about Benson, the 2009 Chevy Cobalt, or the events in Maharaj Mobile Home Park on December 17–18, 2014?
