Donald Eugene Gonnelly, 73, was found dead in his Zellwood, Florida home on November 6, 2014, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and face. His grandson, Oakley Miller, then 19, called 911 and reported finding the body and signs of a home invasion. Investigators concluded the scene had been staged to resemble a burglary.
Authorities arrested Miller and charged him with first-degree murder. During the investigation he alleged nearly a decade of sexual, psychological, and physical abuse by Gonnelly; his defense later argued the shooting followed an incident of abuse. Prosecutors pointed to evidence suggesting premeditation: Miller had reportedly told a friend days earlier that Gonnelly was dead, sold some of Gonnelly’s rare coins before the killing, and removed electronics afterward to support the staged burglary story. Miller pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 25-year sentence.
Does anyone have information about Gonnelly’s life in Zellwood or about contacts who might shed light on the family’s history?
