Jamar Samuel, 26, was fatally shot on July 4, 2015, in Potrero Hill. The shooting happened at about 11:20 p.m. on the 1000 block of Connecticut Street, near the Potrero Terrace public housing complex. Samuel was found lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death was the second homicide on that block within five days; Prince Johnson had been killed on June 29, 2015. Two men, a father and son identified as Jabar Hickman, 42, and Carneil Hickman-Butler, 25, were arrested in connection with Johnson’s killing but were released for lack of sufficient evidence. No suspect information has been released in Samuel’s case, and the relationship, if any, between the two killings remains unclear. Samuel’s death was recorded as San Francisco’s 26th homicide of 2015 and the investigation remains open.

Anyone who was in the Potrero Hill area on the night of July 4, 2015, or who has information about what happened is urged to contact investigators.
