Sanford C. Olson II, 55, died on April 20, 2014, at his Ormond Beach, Florida home from a gunshot wound. A neighbor was alerted after Sanford’s wife, Doris Barrells, reported that the shooting was accidental. Deputies found Sanford on a bed with a gun beside him; Doris was described by a neighbor as hysterical and intoxicated when she reported the incident.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigated and determined there was no evidence of a criminal offense. Deputies concluded the shooting appeared to be accidental and no charges were filed. Sanford, originally from Stoughton, Wisconsin, had moved to Florida in the early 1980s, worked in construction and at Sea Ray Boat Manufacturing, and lived with Doris in a beachside bungalow.
Friends and family remembered him as kind and adventurous at a memorial gathering. Does anyone have further details about Sanford’s life in Ormond Beach or the morning of April 20, 2014?
