Anthony Bartley, 21, of Yulee, Florida, was shot and killed by a Nassau County deputy on February 10, 2014, after deputies responded to a reported burglary in the North Hampton subdivision. According to accounts of the encounter, Bartley was acting erratically, jumping on a moving car and attempting to break into a house. Deputy Wilfred Quick confronted him and was allegedly attacked, leading to a physical struggle. Bartley was reportedly stunned twice with a Taser and continued to assault the deputy before Quick shot him multiple times, causing his death.

Bartley’s family and friends said he was unarmed and misunderstood, that he had been visiting friends in the neighborhood, and that he had turned his life around after a prior conviction for selling cocaine. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated and the State Attorney’s Office reviewed the case; the shooting was ruled justifiable and officials concluded Deputy Quick acted in self-defense. Family members and some community residents disagreed with that finding and continued to seek accountability.

Did anyone in North Hampton know Anthony or see the events of February 10, 2014?
