Cynthia McGee Bryant, a 53-year-old African American insurance agent, was shot and killed on January 6, 2014, in her office at McGee Insurance Company in Sanford, Florida. The shooting happened shortly after noon; police found Cynthia slumped over in her chair with a broken cell phone in her hand. Investigators determined she had been shot four times, including a fatal chest wound.
Witnesses reported seeing her boyfriend, Richard Barnes, arrive at the office before gunshots were heard and then flee through a back alley. Barnes, 46 and homeless at the time, was arrested on January 8, 2014, and charged with premeditated first-degree murder. Witnesses identified him in a lineup. Friends and family described the couple’s relationship as tumultuous and on-and-off, and there were prior domestic disturbances that did not result in charges.
Does anyone have additional information about Cynthia’s life or the relationship that might shed light on what led to this killing?
