Nicole Grier was 19 when she was shot to death on December 30, 2013, in Lauderhill, Florida. She had just picked up her 11-month-old son from a babysitter at 3320 Northwest 18th Street and was strapping him into a car seat when two cars, described as a white Lexus and a black BMW, pulled up. Witnesses heard five or six gunshots; Nicole was struck multiple times and died at the scene while reportedly pleading with the shooters to stop.

A week after the killing, 26-year-old Jalil Allen was arrested and charged with premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm; he was held without bond. Nicole’s mother, Tamala Watson, and other family members, including stepfather Keith Bosket, attended court proceedings as the case moved toward trial and jury selection.
