Jamal Jones, 26, of Gladeview, Florida, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds on December 5, 2013. Police quickly classified the death as a homicide after witnesses reported hearing gunshots near his residence that night and surveillance video captured a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

Investigators identified and questioned the vehicle’s owner; months later an anonymous tip led police to a suspect with a known criminal history who was alleged to have a personal motive. That individual was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with prosecutors citing forensic links to the scene and witness statements. The suspect has pleaded not guilty and the case was scheduled for trial in the coming months.

Jones’s family and the Gladeview community have held vigils and events in his memory and urged cooperation with the investigation.
