On August 15, 2013, 18-year-old Joseph Suazo of Golden Gate, Florida, was shot multiple times and killed inside his family home. His mother, Johana Nunez, was also shot multiple times and died at the scene. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported a revolver was used.
The shootings were carried out by Joseph’s father, Jose Suazo, during an argument the morning of the incident. Investigators say the dispute arose after Jose accused his wife of having an extramarital affair. After the killings, Jose contacted a pastor in Fort Myers and was later stopped by Lee County deputies on Interstate 75 and arrested; he gave detectives a taped confession and witnesses reported he had admitted the shootings.
Jose Suazo was charged with two counts of first-degree murder but was transferred to Avow Hospice in Naples for treatment of a terminal illness and died of natural causes in June 2014 while still under guard; the State Attorney’s Office closed the case afterward. Does anyone have memories of the family or information that could shed more light on what led to that morning’s confrontation?
