Matthew Sheldon Cox Jr., 19, of Montclair, Florida, was shot and killed on July 28, 2012, while standing in front of his home. The assailant chased him and fired two rounds through the front door, one striking Matthew in the heart and killing him.

Investigators later identified 19-year-old Bennie Louis Robbins III through DNA found at the scene. Robbins was arrested about three weeks after the shooting during a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle; police recovered the murder weapon and drugs. He was charged with premeditated first-degree murder, grand theft auto, and possession of a controlled substance. An Escambia County jury found Robbins guilty in January 2014, and in April 2014 Circuit Judge Terry Terrell sentenced him to life with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Matthew was remembered as charismatic and aspired to be an underwater welder. His mother, Cindy Martin, became active in advocacy around justice and gun violence prevention after his death. Does anyone have memories of Matthew or information about that night that could add context to what happened?
