On January 23, 2010, in Wellington, Florida, 7-year-old Eric Jacobson was found dead alongside his twin brother Joshua and their mother, Franki Jacobson. Their father, Neal Jacobson, shot and killed the three in the early hours of the morning, shortly before the twins’ seventh birthday party.
Neal had been diagnosed with vertigo and depression on January 2, 2010, and was prescribed Zoloft and Xanax about three weeks before the killings. Friends and family reported that his personality changed after beginning the medications; those close to him described increased anxiety, paranoia, and sleep problems. On the morning of January 23, Neal shot Franki after a brief struggle over a gun and then shot the sleeping boys.
Neal was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder; prosecutors initially sought the death penalty and his defense raised insanity claims tied in part to the medications. To avoid the death penalty he pleaded guilty and received three life sentences without parole. If anyone knew Eric, his twin Joshua, or the family and can share information that might shed further light on what happened, please come forward.
