Christopher Reyka, 51, was a sergeant with the Broward Sheriff’s Office who was shot and killed on August 10, 2007, while checking license plates for possibly stolen vehicles outside a Walgreens in Pompano Beach, Broward County. He was checking plates on two suspicious vehicles when he was ambushed and shot multiple times and died at the scene despite immediate efforts to save him.
Investigations produced several leads over time but the case remains officially unsolved. Private investigator Dan Riemer, working for a key witness, identified Gerald Joshua, a 28-year-old alleged drugstore robber, as the trigger man; others implicated in a series of Walgreens robberies included Timothy Johnson, Allen Johnson, and Consuela Jones. Jones was charged with tampering with evidence after disposing of guns believed linked to the robberies, though the gun used to kill Reyka was never recovered. The Broward Sheriff’s Office also named Shawn LaBeet as a prime suspect; LaBeet was killed in a police shootout about a month after Reyka’s death and was reported seen in the area the night of the shooting.
Does anyone have additional information about activity near that Walgreens on the night of August 10, 2007?
