Kyle Mathew Spirit, known as AppleJax, was an 8-year-old boy from Kenansville, Florida who died on November 14, 2001, in a hunting accident at the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area. He was accidentally shot in the head when his father, Don Spirit, was showing his sons rust on the muzzle of a high-powered Browning rifle and the weapon discharged. Kyle was taken by his father through woods toward help but did not survive.

Don Spirit had a 1998 felony conviction for possession of marijuana, which made firearm possession illegal. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement and received a three-year prison sentence. The family kept mementos of Kyle and recalled his nicknames, including AppleJax and earlier sweet pumpkin pie.

Does anyone have memories of Kyle or information about that day that could help document what happened?
